Veteran’s plaque stolen from parish cemetery

An act of theft has recently occured at Leon Manuel Cemetery in Evangeline Parish.
J.D. Soileau said, “Last Saturday I noticed that someone had stolen a military man’s plaque from his grave.”
Soileau is the caretaker at the public graveyard for paupers, or as Soileau explains it, “for the people that have no where to go to be burried.”
The plaque that was stolen from the cemetery that is located between Point Blue and Chataignier, Soileau described as being 24 inches by 12 inches and is made of bronze.
Soileau is unsure as to when the plaque was stolen from the veteran’s grave that he asked to keep annonymous out of respect for the dead.
Earlier this week Soileau reported the theft to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office who has begun their investigation into finding out who committed the crime at the cemetery that is also known as the Hidden Cemetery.
According to the EPSO, “there are no suspects at this time.”
While the EPSO continues their investigation, Soileau said, “I am working on having the plaque replaced.”
