GRAMBLING - The Basile Bearcat season ended Friday night, as they fell to Lincoln Prep 41-12 here in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.
The Bearcats could not contain the Lincoln Prep offense, as the Kittens racked up 322 total yards, including 261 yards on the ground.
“It has been that kind of year,” stated Basile head coach Kevin Bertrand. “It seemed like we just could not get our running game going all season and we just could not stop other teams from running the ball.”
The game looked like it would come down to the wire after one quarter of play, as both teams were able to put up points in the period.
After Lincoln Prep got on the board with an eight yard touchdown run, Basile answered back when Dawson Ashford hit Rashawn Murphy on an 18-yard scoring strike. Neither team could hit their extra points and the game was tied at 6-6 as the quarter ended.
The Kittens scored two more times in the second quarter to push the lead to 24-6. The first score was a nine-yard run, while the second touchdown came on a 38-yard pass.
Lincoln Prep added two more touchdowns in the third quarter on a six-yard run and a one-yard plunge to extend the score to 35-6.
In the final quarter, the Kittens expanded the lead to 41-6 after scoring on a 38-yard pass.
Basile’s final score of the game came late in the final quarter, as Ashford hit Murphy on a 21-yard pass.
Ashford finished five of 12 for 76 yards and two touchdowns.
Murphy caught three passes for 54 yards and two touchdowns.
