At Pine Prairie’s Thursday night council meeting, one of the town’s residents addressed the council concerning a sign that was made for a team that won the World Series that is displayed at the entrance of the town on La. Highway 13.
Alycia McDaniel said, “I am very proud of the accomplishment of the girls that won the World Series, however as a state champion of the Pine Prairie High School girl’s softball team we kind of felt like we represented Pine Prairie and that we would like some signs. I’m not asking for elaborate stuff, but that was Dixie. We represented this town and it’s school.”
According to councilman Tammy Hammond, these feelings have been expressed by other former PPHS state champions as well.
Hammond said, “Other players have asked me why they have a sign, but the state championship teams don’t.”
While the council seemed to agree that they should look into having something at the entrance of the town that recognizes PPHS state championship teams, they would have to discuss this with Mayor Terry Savant first.
Mayor Pro Tem Quint West said, “Terry is still the mayor, but I can talk with him about it. Now, when I get in office, we can bring this back up if he doesn’t approve something. But for now, we need to bring this up to him and see what he says.”
Before the discussion over this matter ended, McDaniel added, “I would just like for y’all to show some gratitude to the people representing this town and school.”
Other items approved at the meeting were:
