CHATAIGNIER -- The Chataignier Village Council unanimously approved a motion to advertise for the position of Town Clerk at Monday night’s meeting.
Mayor Jackie Thomas said, “Rhonda (Miller) will be leaving, to go back home, where she’s from, and we will have to advertise for a new clerk.”
She continued, “Miss Rhonda has come to the conclusion that she will be going back to her home state.”
Current Clerk Rhonda Miller will be resigning some time after the first of the year.
The council also agreed to slate the town’s Christmas Parade for 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2016. Line up for the parade is slated for 2:30 to 3 p.m.
The town will also plans to host a gumbo cook off earlier that day, and the fee to enter the cooking contest is $25. Judging will be at 11:45 a.m., and the public will be able to purchase gumbo from noon to 1 p.m. Baked goods will be also be available. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be at the event for children to take photos with, and there will also be a fun jump and possibly a petting zoo.
Police Chief Clint Brasseaux presented some information on the Local Agency Compensated Enforcement program to the council, and he expressed an interest in getting the department involved in the program.
“The program is run by the state,” Brasseaux said. “What it is, pretty much, is they (the state) reimburse you for running traffic.”
Brasseaux said he wanted to get the council’s thoughts on joining the program.
Thomas asked Brasseaux to provide her more information on the program to review before the action would be added to a later meeting agenda.
Later in the meeting, Thomas also spoke about her desire to have a Dollar General store open in the village.
“I was speaking with someone from Dollar General, and I did not get a chance to go on the website, but there is a place where you pull up, to suggest an area that would do well with a Dollar General,” Thomas said.
She continued, “The main thing they look for is the more people that suggest a Dollar General would do well in an area, the better the chances that they will eventually come out to the area. We want to encourage family and friends from this area to go on that site and put that we could actually support a Dollar General. The more the better.”
