VILLE PLATTE- A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Hilda Johnson was celebrated on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Rite of Committal followed in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery.
Johnson, 98, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Pine Prairie, surrounded by her family.
“Maw Maw Johnny,” as she was affectionately known, was a loving and compassionate woman who loved to cook Sunday dinner every weekend for her growing family. In her younger years, Hilda and her late husband, Alverd, loved to dance.
Johnson will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Edna Soileau and husband, Derald, of Ville Platte, and Beryl Vizinat and husband, Randy, of Ville Platte and two sisters, Betty Pommier of Lawtell and Dora Dekerlgand of Pontachoula. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her seven grandchildren, Connie Soileau, Anita Soileau, Brenda Dupre, Rachel Ritter, Jennifer Keeler, Haley Miller and Dirk Fontenot; 18 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great- grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her husband of 64 years, Alverd Johnson; brothers, Ellis Vidrine and Doris Vidrine; and sisters, Viola Johnson and Elna Vidrine.
Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte was in charge of arrangements.
