The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs and the Sacred Heart Trojans were able to pick up big district wins this past week.
Ville Platte took to the court on Wednesday night to face the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers in a make up game that was cancelled last Friday due to weather conditions. The Lady Bulldogs handled themselves like a team on a mission, as they came away with a convincing 54-30 win over the Lady Panthers.
Friday night, it was the Lady Trojans that came up with a much needed win. Facing an 0-2 start to the district season, Sacred Heart was able to pull past the Opelousas Catholic Lady Vikings by the score of 30-27.
Here is a re-cap of those two contests.
Pine Prairie vs.
Ville Platte
It was all Ville Platte from the start, as the Lady Bulldogs never trailed the entire game. Ville Platte came out with some tenacious defense and an opportunistic offense to take a 15-10 lead after one quarter of play.
As the second period opened, the Lady Bulldogs continued the defensive pressure, creating several turnover. Ville Platte knocked down the first nine points of the quarter and extended their lead to 32-15 as the first half buzzer sounded.
Ville Platte really let loose in the third quarter, outscoring Pine Prairie 17-7 to extend the lead to 49-22 as the period came to a close.
The final stanza was just a formality for the Lady Bulldogs, as both teams emptied the bench with the game well in hand.
Sacred Heart vs.
Opelousas Catholic
The Lady Trojans, needing a big win to stabilize their season, came through in a huge way against the Lady Vikings.
As the opening quarter indicated, both Sacred Heart and Opelousas Catholic appeared to be evenly matched, as each team dropped in five points.
The Lady Vikings were one point better in the second quarter. Despite a five point effort by Catherine Poche, the Lady Trojans found themselves down by one-point, 15-14, as the first half horn sounded.
It was almost déjà vu in the third quarter. The two squads continued to match shot for shot, as both Sacred Heart and Opelousas Catholic managed to knock down seven points.
With the win still within reach for both teams, the game would come down to the final quarter. The Lady Trojans rose to the occasion, getting points from four different players to outpace the Lady Vikings 9-5 and seal the victory.
With the win, Sacred Heart runs their record to 8-10 and 1-1 in district.
