District action continued for three of the area teams, as the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers and the Pine Prairie Panthers all took the hard court Friday night.
For the Lady Panthers, a chance to remain in sole possession of second place in District 5-3A did not go unfulfilled, as they were able to blast the Port Barre Lady Devils on the road by the score of 47-19.
The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans needed an offensive boost after only scoring 54 total points in the last two games and got it against David Thibodaux by taking a 53-28 win over the Lady Bulldogs in Lafayette.
Things did not go as well for the Panthers, as Pine Prairie fell in their comeback attempt in a 69-60 loss to the Port Barre Red Devils in a district road game.
Here is a run down of all three games.
Pine Prairie (G)
vs. Port Barre
The Lady Panthers showed no mercy on the Lady Red Devils throughout the contest. Pine Prairie began the game by outscoring Port Barre 14-4 in the opening quarter.
That lead was extended to 34-8 at the end of the second period, as the Lady Panthers continued to pour it on.
From the third quarter on, it was mop up time for the Pine Prairie bench, as they played most of the second half. With that said, the Lady Panthers were still able to hold the Lady Red Devils to single digits in the final two frames.
Sarah Vidrine swished the nets for 10 points to lead all Lady Panthers.
Sacred Heart (G)
vs. David Thibodaux
Sacred Heart set the tone early by taking a 10-6 advantage after one quarter of play.
The Lady Trojans widened that margin, as they held the Lady Bulldogs to only two points in the second period and going into the locker room with a 21-8 lead.
Sacred Heart’s Sydney Shiver scorched the nets for 10 of her game high 18 points in the third quarter to give the Lady Trojans a 40-14 lead at the end of three quarters of play.
Pine Prairie (B)
vs. Port Barre
Despite a 33-point effort from Darnell Durgin, the Pine Prairie Panthers could not overcome an 18-6 deficit at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers tried to right the ship in the second and third quarters, outpacing the Red Devils 20-19 and 19-12 respectfully.
However, the two teams held serve in the final quarter, as they each scored 20 points to close out the game.
