The City of Ville Platte isn’t the only municipality facing law suits because of actions on the part of their law enforcement officers.
On July 11, 2016, attorney Gilbert Aucoin filed a suit against the City of Mamou, XYZ Insurance Company and former Chief of Police Robert McGee on behalf of his client who alleges the Mamou Police Department unlawfully arrested her on July 12, 2015.
The defendants responded to Aucoin’s petition on September 12, 2016 and denied all of the claims made by Aucoin’s client.
According to the petition filed, the plaintiff - April Landreneau - claims that she “was peacefully occupying her former residence” in Mamou when she was “unlawfully arrested by order of Robert McGee, of the Mamou Police Department, without a warrant.” Landreneau was being accused of theft of her own four-wheelers.
The damages and injuries incurred by the plaintiff are listed in the suit as being a result of the MPD violating her constitutional rights, violating the Louisiana law and defendant’s professional negligence. Their actions, they claim caused mental pain, anguish and distress, shock, depression, and physical pain and suffering on the plaintiff.
This matter has been set for trial on September 18, 2017.
