Old Fashioned Boucherie helped raise funds for Ville Platte Boys & Girls Club

There were plenty of award-winning dishes being served at Saturday’s Old Fashioned Boucherie & Smoke Meat Cook-Off in Ville Platte.
The fund raiser for the Ville Platte Boys & Girls Club was held all day at the Northside Civic Center and Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court Randy Deshotel served as masters of ceremonies. Troup de’ Evangeline Theatre group, Mardi Gras riders from Basile, DJ Jude Dardeau and the musical act Knight Train provided the entertainment.
A total of 12 vendors took part in the event, including: Woodmen of the World Fraternal Society, Peter Strawitz of Edward Jones, Jack Miller’s Bar-B-Que Sauce, Tee Cotton Bowl & Fontenot Physical Therapy, Evangeline Parish Sheriff Posse, VFW-Vidrine/Aucion courtesy of Donald Vidrine, Shop’s Grocery, Doug Ashey Lumber, Paul’s Meat Market, Leroy’s Cajun Store, Vietnam Veterans of America and Ha U Want It Seasoning. Eric Gil with State Farm Insurance helped out with a donation.
Ville Platte Boys & Girls Club Director Dianna Freeman Johnson expressed her gratitude for all those that took part in the event.
“I truly have to thank all who have been so supportive of the Ville Platte Boys & Girls Club’s First Annual Old Fashioned Boucherie & Smoke Meat Cook Off,” Johnson said. “Thanks a million for your continual support and efforts impacting our community and inspiring our youth with our culture.”
Johnson added, “A big shout out of thanks also goes out to Mel’s Total Fitness for games and the raffle prizes, members of the Troupe de’ Evangeline and Basile Mardi Gras for entertaining and interacting with the audience and with the Chicken Run, Thomas Brothers and Crew for the Boucherie demonstration and the Ville Platte Fire Department. Many thanks also to Jesse Muse for setting the course and the momentum of our First Annual Old Fashioned Boucherie.”
The event featured four separate categories, and then one grand champion crowned.
In the Gumbo Category: First place was awarded to Shop’s Grocery, second place to Ha U Want It Seasoning and third place to Leroy’s Cajun Store.
In the Tasso & Sausage Category: First place was given to Leroy’s Cajun Store, second place to Ha U Want It Seasoning and third place to Shop’s Grocery.
In the Pounce Category: First place went to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff Posse, second place to Shop’s Grocery and third place to Woodmen of the World Fraternal Society.
The Grand Champion was given to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff Possee for their Pounce dish.
