Mayor Quint West provided some good news at the Village of Pine Prairie’s monthly meeting held Tuesday.
West informed board members of some maintenance improvements that have taken place around the town, including fixing the malfunctioned lights at the public tennis courts, as well as repairing the light that shines on the welcoming sign on the north side of town.
“I personally met with a Cleco Corp. representative about the tennis court lights and want to thank them very much for their help,” West said. “He couldn’t fix for it the village but he provided me with ideas on how they could be fixed.”
West also said that a few improvements had been made at the town’s ballpark.
“We had a water pipe that had busted at the ball park so we had that repaired for the upcoming season,” West said. “We also had two Coke coolers that were going out. Coca-Cola came as soon as we called them and took care of that as well.”
West and the board also discussed an ongoing problem with littering along Hampton Dupre Road.
“We have had problems with it for awhile now,” West said.
“We have already cleaned it up two or three times. It is a very pretty road when it doesn’t have litter.”
The council decided to start putting up signs on the road for residents not to litter, and will also start looking into what kind of fines can be enforced on those who do litter.
Other items that were approved at Tuesday’s meeting were:
• Adopt Resolution #3-2017, The Evangeline Parish Hazard Mitigation Plan Update 2017.
• Introduce Ordinance #5-2017, (Amendment to Ordinance #2-2013), “General Employment Policy” and schedule a public hearing for April 13, 2017 at 5 p.m.
• Introduce Ordinance #6-2017, (Amendment to Ordinance #3-2013), “Police Employment Policy” and schedule a public hearing for April 13, 2017 at 5 p.m.
