On Tuesday, Jill and James Deville appeared before Judge Gary Ortego to enter a plea of guilty for multiple theft charges.
The husband and wife, who were at one time affiliated with the K12 Christian Academy on Main Street in Ville Platte, were arrested in 2015 and charged with theft by fraud in relation to their business 3C Millworks.
James, who was represented by attorney Michael Breeden, pled guilty to two counts of theft $1,500 or more and was sentenced to five years of hard labor with five years suspended and five years of active supervised probation. He received the same sentence for the 11 counts of theft of $750 or more but less than $5,000. These two sentences will be served concurrently, or at the same time.
For 14 counts of theft over $750 but less than $5,000 and five counts of theft $5,000 but less than $25,000, James received five years of hard labor, five of which were suspended, and five years of active supervised probation for each. James was also sentenced to six months in the parish jail, all of which was suspended, and one year of active supervised probation for theft less than $750. These charges will run concurrently with each other.
James has also been ordered to pay $10,000 within 30 days of entering his plea of guilty.
Jill, who was represented by attorney Roshell Jones, was sentenced to two counts of theft of $1,500 or more and was sentenced to seven years of hard labor, all of which were suspended, and five years of active supervised probation. She received the same sentence for her five counts of theft $5,000 or more but less than $25,000. For the 11 counts of theft of $750 but less than $5,000, she received five years of hard labor, five of which were suspended, and five years of active supervised probation.
For the two counts of theft less than $750, Jill was sentenced to four months in the parish jail. She was given credit for time served, and all of her sentences are set to run concurrently.
