VIRGIE MAE GRADNEY

December 6, 1932 - June 10, 2017

Virgie Mae Gradney left this world behind and joined the angels in Heaven on Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the age of 84.
Virgie was a kind hearted woman who was always striving to make everyone feel at home and welcome. When someone visited Virgie’s home, she always made sure they “never left hungry” even if she had to start off cooking with something straight out the freezer. The compassion she showed people also extended to any animals she came to meet. Virgie loved to garden and was especially fond of growing tomatoes, green onions, and okra. She also enjoyed growing flowers for everyone to enjoy.
Virgie’s greatest attribute was that of caring for her family who she enjoyed spending time with. She will be greatly missed by her sons Kenneth Gradney of Lafayette, Kevin Gradney of Pine Prairie, Jerry Gradney and George Gradney both of Mamou; daughters Debra Rollins of Turkey Creek, Georgia King-Jerry of Mamou, Melissa Gradney of Pine Prairie; and sisters Lorinza “Lori” Jolivette of Houston, Priscilla Allen of Friendsworth, Texas, Loraine Perron of Mamou, and Ellamae Fontenot of California. Also left behind to cherish her memory are her twenty-one grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Virgie is now united with her parents Louis and Anna Deculus Papillion, husband of about 50 years George Gradney, son Uyless Gradney, daughters Anna Delafosse and little Rose Gradney, and her brothers Michael Papillion and Melton Papillion.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou with rite of committal following in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery with Father Taj Glodd officiating services.
At the family’s request, visitation was taken place at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Mamou on Tuesday, June 13 from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM with a rosary being prayed in her honor at 6:00 PM. Visitation resumed on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
