Bond commission aids sugar refinery

Baton Rouge — The Louisiana bond commission approved a $15 million grant to assist Cargill and Louisiana SugarCane Products, Inc. (LSCPI) with the construction of a sugar refinery in Reserve.

A delegation of sugar producers and industry professionals faced Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu and the bond commission last Thursday with hopes of procuring the funds that will be used to break ground on the facility that will refine sugar from eight Louisiana sugar cooperatives, including Louisiana SugarCane Co-op in St. Martinville and Cajun Sugar Co-op in New Iberia.
