Our candidate for the non-news news of the week is that most teachers are opposed to any change in how they are paid, other than paying them more.

Gov. Bobby Jindal’s first budget proposal includes $20 million for an unexplained program to recognize outstanding teachers and offer unspecified incentives.

Concerned about “merit pay” or “pay for performance”, teachers say they shouldn’t be judged on how well their students perform, but on how well they teach.
