City thanks parish for help

The City of Eunice on Tuesday night thanked the St. Landry Parish Council government for assistance in curbing the city's jail expenses.

Police Chief Gary Fontenot told the City Council that the parish is footing the bill for a nurse who is conducting regular sick call in the jail.

Fontenot, at the prodding of Mayor Bob Morris, has been exploring various avenues for reducing inmate expenses, particular those required for medical treatment.

He said the nurse has been visiting the jail for about two weeks and that he already sees a difference in inmate attitude. "She's pretty tough," the chief commented.

The chief said Parish Administrator Jesse Bellard and Parish President Don Menard had been particularly helpful in getting the nurse into the jail.
