CPD conducts 'check up' calls

CROWLEY – The Crowley Police Department checked up on the city’s registered sex offenders Tuesday morning, making sure that they were living at the address the city had listed and following all the rules that were set for them by the courts.
The “check up” started at 7 a.m. and lasted until late in the morning.
Some of the offenders on the list had moved or given false addresses to the court. In one case, the offender had moved to Puerto Rico without notifying the proper authorities.
Aside from checking with the offenders themselves, police also checked in with their neighbors to see if they had any complaints or had noticed any suspicious activity at the offender’s residence.
Some of the neighbors were surprised to find that there was an offender living in the area.
“We normally check up on these guys every few months to make sure that they are doing what they are supposed to,” said Crowley police officer Jimmy Broussard. “The court gave these people some very specific rules to live by and we need to make sure that they are complying.”
