Seniors chosen as Featured Athletes of the Month

CROWLEY – Don’t tell John and Louise Webb that they are getting older. The Webbs, of Crowley, have been recently featured as the Featured Athletes of the Month by the Louisiana Senior Olympic Game’s “The Field Post” periodical.
“We are usually at a tournament or competition just about every weekend,” said John. “We like to stay on the move.”
The Webbs recently won the silver medal at the National Senior Olympic Games for the shuffleboard competition. The competition took place in Louisville, Kentucky this past summer. They are also active bowlers and compete in “several of the other events at the competition just for fun” according to Louise.
The Webbs have been active participants in the Senior Olympics at the district and state level since 1985. In 2001, John was inducted into the LSOG (Louisiana Senior Olympic Games) Hall of Fame and Louise has received a nomination.
They have been active in promoting the Senior Olympics traveling frequently around Acadia Parish.
“We’re going to compete on the Southwest Games in Lake Charles this week,” said John. “Hopefully we can bring back a couple of more medals on Sunday.”
The Webbs also serve on the Acadiana District Steering Committee, volunteer for the Acadia Council on Aging, and assist with other community organizations. Both have overcome disease, surgery and hardships throughout their years together but have “always come out on top”, according to John.
