Council OKs $3M bonds for streets
Breaux Bridge — The City Council on March 11 authorized Mayor Jack Dale Delhomme to apply to the State Bond Commission for a $3 million bond issue to resurface all of the city’s streets.
And the council OKed a contract with Domingue Szabo & Associates, the Lafayette firm that normally provides the city with engineering services, to map out the streets project.
Engineer Calvin Courville said he would begin setting up a priority list based on use and need.
“We should be able to get all the streets that need fixing,” he told the council.
Mayor Delhomme noted that some streets have been repaired piecemeal with grant monies.
“It is time for us to bite the bullet and get the whole city up to par,” Delhomme said.
In a related action, Courville, the city’s contract engineer, said work was scheduled to begin on a new, larger waterline along Agnes
Street on March 20.
An undersized water main serving the area on the east side of the bayou has caused low water pressure and could present a safety issue in the event of a fire.
A new water tank is also scheduled to be built to server the growing I-10 commercial corridor.
