Panthers take back-to-back district victories over parish squads

The Pine Prairie High School baseball team scored back-to-back wins over district and parish rivals last week.
Bryant Firmin got the win on the hill against Ville Platte. He only pitched one inning, but it was enough for the young man to set the tone on defense. Jonathan Fontenot, Zack Blood and Caleb West each did work on the mound. The quartet allowed just one hit and no runs in the five-inning contest.
Firmin led the Panthers, going 4-5 at the plate. Firmin roped three doubles and a home run in the contest. He also drove in five RBIs. Ashton Dupre was 2-5 at the plate with two runs batted in. Fontenot and Kyle Maricle each hit a double in the contest. Caleb West was 1-3 with a two-run double. The Panthers collected a total of 10 in the game.
Darius Poullard got the only hit for the Bulldogs. He hit a one-out single in the bottom of the third frame.
The Panthers also crushed Mamou with a 12-2 victory last Tuesday. The Panthers scored three runs in their first three trips to the plate to go up 9-1.
Bryant Firmin got the ball rolling in the first inning with a single and Dupre followed with a base on balls. A double from Jonathan Fontenot pushed one run home. A single from Brandon Guillory later scored two more runs.
Three more runs scored in the second frame. Kaleb Johnson got the ball rolling with a single. He scored on Firmin’s second hit of the night. Dupre picked up an RBI with a single to left field. Robert Vidrine pushed Dupre home when he reached on an error.
The Panthers went on to a big victory. Firmin was perfect at the plate, going 4-4 with a double and a home run. He also drove in three RBIs. Dupre was 3-3 with two runs batted in. Zack Blood was 2-4 and Johnson was 2-3.
Brandon Guillory got the win on the mound. He went five innings, allowing one hit and fanning eight batters.
The Panthers will host Opelousas Catholic Monday, and then go to Sacred Heart Wednesday.
