Attorney meets with fuel bidders

City Attorney Jacque Pucheu met today with the two vendors bidding for the city’s gasoline and fuel supply in an effort to resolve who will get the contract.

The City Council turned the matter over to Pucheu last week when Reed Gas of Eunice and FleetRite of Crowley bid the same base amount.

However, FleetRite included a two-cents-per-gallon discount once the monthly consumption exceeds 2,000 gallons.

The City Clerk told the council that the average this year has been more than 7,000 gallons monthly.

Some council members wanted to consider what they label the excellent service Reed has provided as the current contract holder.

Others questioned whether that could be a factor, if one bid is clearly lower than the other.

Pucheu said he reviewed the bids and the various aspects with representatives of both firms at a joint meeting in order to understand any differences between the two offers as clearly as he can.

He said he hopes to have decision to the mayor and council Tuesday.
