School Board schedules driver's ed classes
The St. Landry Parish School Board’s Driver’s Education summer program will begin on Wednesday, May 28. Classes will be held from 8 a.m. until noon.
According to material distributed at the board’s March meeting, registration for the program will be Tuesday, May 27, from 8 a.m. until noon at Eunice High and six other high schools in the parish.
The program consists of 30 hours of class work (about one and a half weeks) and six hours of driving.
Cost is $250, which must be paid at registration by cash or check.
The program is open to public, private and parochial school students who are age 15 by July 15 of this year. Proof of age is also required at registration.
A budget estimate by the board staff, estimates 375 students will enroll, generating income of $93,750.
The expense breakdown:
Salaries for 13 instructors: - $59,500;
Rental cars - $10,400;
Insurance - $5,200;
Gasoline, oil, etc. - $13,650;
Supplies - passenger side brakes, etc. - $2,000.
Remaining funds - $3,000.
