Lady Trojans score back-to-back wins

Sacred Heart picked up back-to-back District 6-2A victories recently over Mamou and Westminster. The wins keep the Lady Trojans on track to come out second in district competition. With only three weeks left in the regular season, Sacred Heart is really starting to step up their game.
The Lady Trojans got a 4-2 victory over Mamou Saturday. Sacred Heart jumped out on top in the first inning. Samantha Davenport walked and then stole second base. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Logan Hebert. She crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice from Courtney Ramirez.
Mamou knotted the game up in the top of the second inning. Amanda Fontenot singled to begin the inning. She moved to third on a single from Kristie Soileau. A single from Heidi Manuel pushed Manuel across the dish tying the game at one run per team.
Mamou took the lead in the top of the fourth frame. Cydni James reached base on an error and then scored on a single from Amy Fontenot. Hebert, the SHHS pitcher, managed to get herself out of the jam with a strikeout. She fanned six batters in the contest.
Sacred Heart picked up three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead back. With one out, Davenport singled and stole her way around the pads to third base. She scored on an error that Ramirez hit. A double from Sarah Dupre pushed another run across the plate. A single from Laura Coreil brought Dupre home.
The Lady Trojans took a 13-3 victory from the Lady Crusaders of Westminster Christian Academy. Logan Hebert got the win in the circle again. She fanned six batters and scattered four hits.
Laura Coreil was 2-5 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Sarah Dupre was 2-5 with an RBI. Anne-Marie Fontenot was 2-4 and Courtney Ramirez hit a double. Shortstop Samantha Davenport ripped a triple and walked twice.
Sacred Heart scored four runs in the first inning on one hit. They took advantage of three errors from the WCA defense. The local ladies grabbed two more runs in the second inning on a hit and an error. Another run was plated in the fourth frame, but the seventh inning shut the door. They scored six runs on six hits, including two doubles.
Sacred Heart was in District 6-2A action Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Trojans hosted Pine Prairie to begin the second round of districts. Look for that story in Sunday’s sports section.
