Eunice rolls past St. Edmunds in tennis clash

For a few hours Wednesday friends became foes as the St. Edmund and Eunice High tennis teams competed at the Buddy Fay Memorial Court.

The Class 4-A Bobcats dominated the meet over the Class-A Blue Jays as Eunice won 18-7.

“These kids all know each other and practice against each other a lot,’ St. Edmund assistant coach Debbie Frederick said. “When the matches are over, they will continue to practice and see each other on the courts.”

The Jays host Notre Dame 10 a.m. Wednesday, while Eunice and St. Eds both travel to Teurlings Catholic 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1.

In boys singles, Eunice won 5-2, while the Bobcats grabbed boys doubles with a 4-1 advantage.

In the Bobcat wins, Tyler Courville defeated Issac Frederick (8-6); Chad Smith downed David Marcantel (8-4); Daniel Anding defeated Quinn D’Aubin (8-2), while Tim Amoit downed Christopher Leonards (8-4) and David Lombas defeated Scott Guillory (8-0).

The Blue Jays boys singles wins included Taylor Tuiague’s 8-2 win over Ethan Perrodin and Alex Young won a 9-8 tiebreaker over Vic Singh.

In boys doubles, Tyler Courville and Daniel Anding downed Reid Redlich and David Marcantel (8-2); Chad Smith and Ethan Perrodin grabbed a 8-3 win over Taylor Tujague and Dominic Sonnier; Jarred Prather and Brett Clavier defeated Chris Leonards and Scott Guillory (9-8); while Tim Amid and David Lombas earned a 8-5 win over Alex Veillon and Scott Guillory.

In girls singles, Eunice grabbed a 4-2 advantage and the Lady Bobcats also captured the doubles with a 5-2 margin.

Dela Jacob-Wood downed Jennifer Cormier (8-4); Lindsay Conner defeated Sarah Moosa (8-5); Ashley Fusilier defeated Addie Thibodeaux (8-5) and Courtney Lafleur downed Mia Frey (8-3).

The Lady Jays earned a pair of wins including Emily Cormier over Alisha Smith (8-4) and Leslie Reviere grabbed a 8-5 win over Miranda Fruge.

In girls doubles, Della Jacob-Wood and Lindsay Conner grabbed a 8-2 win over Leslie Reviere and Milly Tanner; Alisha Smith and Ashley Fusilier downed Caroline Braham and Megan Kreswell (8-3); Jody Vige and Taylor Thibodeaux defeated Claire Ardoin and Casey Leonards (5-1); Hillary Young and Kelly Carrier downed Kelly Cook and April Miller (5-3); while Kandy Andrepont and Candace Guillory defeated Alaina Fontenot and Jaci Soileau (8-2).

The Lady Jays earned a pair of doubles wins including Caroline Miller and Lori Guillory’s 8-5 victory over Bethany Andre and Marander Fruge; while Chelsea Gautreaux and Jade Walls downed Robin Buxton and Javier Pennywell.
