MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) held its annual “Lock Up” in Ville Platte to raise money for Jerry’s kids Thursday, March 20.

Kristi Fredieu, program coordinator, said Evangeline Parish raised $23,000 before the end of the day, and she expected the total to reach $25,000 after all donations were received. “That’s awesome,” she said of Evangeline Parish and the many people who gave their hearts and money to this worthy cause. She said last year, the parish “Lock Up” raised $11,000.

“We had approximately 30 jailbirds,” she said. “They did a great job. There’s so many people we have to thank.

Fredieu thanked the Ville Platte Police Department, Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office for assisting them with transportation of the “jailbirds.”

“We couldn’t do it without them,” she said.

She also gave thanks to all who donated items, especially a huge thanks to the Pig Stand. They donated food and coffee and even $200 to one of the “jailbirds,” who was having trouble raising funds.

Fredieu said everyone went “above and beyond” the call of duty, and she thanked the parish for its generosity.
