Lady Cats add two wins to district record

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats added two more wins over their spring break, scoring a narrow 2-1 win over DeRidder last week before trouncing LaGrange in a 25-1 blowout Tuesday night and clearing the way for tonight’s titanic District 4-4A battle against Sam Houston (17-2-3; 4-0).
Eunice (13-5-2; 4-1) opened up scoring against DeRidder in the first inning when leadoff batter Camille Faul doubled out to right field and later scored.
The Lady Cats extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third, when Jori LeJeune singled to get on base.
LeJeune’s courtesy runner, Jen Frey, later scored on a passed ball.
The Lady Dragons picked up one run when Brittany Pfantz reached first on an outfield error and then scored on a ground-out.
LeJeune pitched the win, giving up one unearned run on two hits and no walks. LeJeune struck out six batters in seven innings of work.
Tuesday’s match allowed many of the younger Lady Cats to get a piece of the action, as Eunice broke out to a 10-1 lead in the first inning.
The Lady Gators scored one run in the bottom of the second inning, but were unable to stop Eunice from adding another 15 runs in the top of the third.
The game came to a close after LeJeune struck out three Lady Gators in the second half of the inning.
LeJeune (8-4-1) took the win for Eunice, giving up one earned run on three hits and no walks, while striking out seven batters in the three-inning game.
The Lady Cats play their last away game of the season tonight against the Lady Broncos at 5 p.m., which may well decide if the Lady Cats can claim a share of the District 4-4A title.
Earlier this month, Sam Houston pitched a 10-run shutout against the Lady Cats in their first district outing.
Despite the pressure, Lady Cat head coach Scott Deshotel said his girls are ready for the challenge.
“We’re on a roll right now. We’re really looking forward to it. We’re 4-1 right now, and we really think we’ve got a chance to compete. The girls are really excited.”
