Mamou kept their strangle hold on second place in District 6-2A with a 4-1 victory over the Lady Crusaders of Westminster.

Mamou scored two runs in the top of the third inning. Amy Fontenot led off the inning with a single and stole second base. Katie Landreneau walked and a single from Mollie Duplechain loaded the bases. Sadie Fontenot (2-5, 2B, 3B) hit a ball that was mis-handled by the center fielder, allowing one run to score. Courtney Tate delivered a single behind her, pushing another run across the plate.

The Lady Demons grabbed one more run in the top of the third inning. Heidi Manuel (2-5, 2B) doubled to begin the inning and later scored on Duplechain’s second hit of the ball game.

WCA fired back with a run in the bottom of third inning. That would be the only run the Lady Crusaders would get off of MHS senior pitcher Sadie Fontenot. She went the distance, fanning 15 batters and allowing just four hits.

The Mamou ladies tacked on another run in the top of the fifth frame. Amanda Fontenot (2-4, DB) led off the inning with a double and stole third base. She scored on a single from Kristie Soileau.

The Lady Demons improved to 18-8 on the year and 6-2 in district. They host Pine Prairie today at 5 p.m.
