ROY BATISTE

EUNICE – Funeral services for Roy Batiste will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Eunice with visitation starting at 7:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Eunice.

The Rev. Allen W. Ben will officiate at the services.

Batiste, a retired teacher and assistant principal, died Thursday, March 27, 2008.

A native of Opelousas, Louisiana, he attended the St. Landry Parish Training School and later joined the United States Army, serving with distinction in the Western Pacific Campaign during World War II. Upon his return to the United States after the war, he enrolled and graduated from Southern University with a degree in Education. Mr. Batiste later received a Master’s Degree +30 from Southern University.

Roy Batiste loved education. He taught Math, Chemistry, and Physics at Charles Drew High School and also taught at Eunice High School. Later he became Assistant Principal at Glendale Elementary and Highland Elementary. Mr. Batiste also taught Adult Education classes for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jules and Ola Batiste; brothers, Oris and Huris Batiste; sisters, Elnora Handy and Barbara “Cookie’’ Clayton; and his second mother, Mary Batiste Ware.

Roy Batiste is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Gloria; children: Darrell, Kathy, Delida, and Roy Jamal; siblings: Loymon Batiste, Raymond Batiste, Willie Lee Frank, Claretta B. Gallow, Anthony Batiste, Catherine B. Troutman, Alvin Batiste, Celestine Lazard, and Barbara Henson. He is also survived by his aunt, Marine Locks and grandchildren: Barry, Grace, Marley, Rory, Sydney and Balen.

Betty Fay Miller

EUNICE- A Celebration of Life will be at a future date for Betty Fay Miller, 61, who passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Lafayette General Hospital.

Mrs. Miller was a retired Librarian at Eunice High School.

A Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, and Grandmother, she is survived by her husband, Walter A. “Drew” Miller of Eunice; a son, Hunter Wiggins of Lafayette; a step-daughter, Kelly Banks of Spring, TX; two brothers, Fred Byars of Moss Bluff, James Byars of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Jackson and Julianna Banks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Frederick and Fay Cecile Arbour Byars.
