Key 6-3A showdown in Kaplan

Today’s match up in Kaplan could go a long way in deciding the final baseball standings in District 6-3A.

The Kaplan Pirates will play host to the North Vermilion Patriots in a rematch of their March 27 game, won by 17-7 by the Pats. Both teams are coming off of Saturday wins.

Kaplan blanked the Erath Bobcats 9-0 at home this weekend. The win came on the heels of the Pirates’ 2-1 win over district leader Catholic High of New Iberia.

Tyler Domingue picked up the win for the Pirates on Saturday. The lefty tossed seven innings and struck out 10 batters. He allowed the Bobcats just a pair of hits.

Brent Cormier paced the offense with two hits to go with his two runs. He also drove home a score. Tony Frederick went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Jacob Frederick also went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Kyle Hollier belted a hit and scored a run, as did Randy Frederick, who crossed home plate twice.

Rynn Touchet and Shane Hebert led Erath with one hit apiece. Touchet’s hit was a double.

The Patriots proved their 17-run performance against Kaplan was not an accident as they rode 11 hits to a 14-3 win over Cecilia Saturday. The Bulldogs allowed just nine runs in their previous three games.

Mark Frederick earned the win with five innings of work. He fanned four batters and allowed three hits.

Blake Meaux and Brady Broussard each went 2-for-3 to lead the Patriots at the plate. Meaux scored three runs and Broussard had three RBIs. Jarrod Roy had two hits and two RBIs and Jeremy Stephens and Joseph Lett each belted a double and two RBIs.
