Trojans slip in back-to-back district contests

The Trojans dropped a pair of district games this week. They fell to Mamou and Port Barre in one-run ball games. The pair of losses sets the Trojans at 3-4 in district.

Sacred Heart fell behind in the bottom of the first inning to Mamou. The Demons got a run when Matt Landreneau reached base on an error and scored on a single from Kaleb Manuel.

The boys in blue and gold tied the game in the top of the second inning. Seth LeBlanc reached base on an error and then scored on a single from Brody Fontenot. The Trojans continued to fight back and took the lead in the second inning. Derek Fontenot led off the inning with a home run. Jacob Ardoin walked, bringing Brandon Manuel to the plate. Manuel had two balls and two strikes when he slammed a pitch over the fence for a two run home run. Sacred Heart was in command, holding a 4-1 lead.

The Trojans added one more run in the top of the fourth frame. Brody Fontenot reached base on an error and moved to second base on a sacrifice from Stuart Schexnayder. A single from Jacob Ardoin brought Fontenot around to score.

Mamou answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out, Cade Soileau singled and Sal Montelaro reached base on an error. Denzel Frank drew a walk to load the bases. Corey Guillory hit a double that scored two runs and Hunter Christ doubled in two more numbers and tied the game at 5-5.

The contest remained tied until the bottom of the seventh and final frame. Christ led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice from Matt Landreneau. Another sacrifice from Alex Haller, Christ was in scoring position. A single from Soileau pushed Christ to the plate, ending the game at 6-5 in favor of Mamou.

The Trojans slipped 5-4 to Port Barre Tuesday. The Red Devils took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth frame. Sacred Heart bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jacob Ardoin and Brandon Manuel singled to begin the inning. Ardoin reached home on an error and Manuel scored on a passed ball.

Clinging to a one-run lead, the Trojans’ pitching staff ran into trouble in the top of the seventh inning. Four hits and a pair of walks contributed to four runs crossing the plate for the PBHS boys. They took a 5-2 lead and looked as though they were ready to shut the door on Sacred Heart.

The Trojans bounced back with force in the bottom of the final frame. Stuart Schexnayder began the inning with a single and Derek Fontenot reached base on an error. A single from Ardoin pushed one across the plate. Later in the inning, A sacrifice fly from Seth LeBlanc moved another run home. The tying run was standing at second base with two outs. Unfortunately, the Trojans were not able to get a that run home and keep the game going.

LeBlanc was 3-3 at the plate with a sacrifice and Ardoin was 2-4 with an RBI. The Trojans will be back in action Thursday when they host Westminster.
