Lady Demons keep eyes on runner-up spot

The Mamou Lady Demons defeated the Opelousas Catholic Lady Vikings 5-1 Tuesday. The win put the Lady Demons in good position to try and secure second place in District 6-2A. The Lady Demons took on Sacred Heart Thursday in a game that could have locked up the runner-up spot in the district.

Sadie Fontenot got the win in the circle. She went all seven innings for Mamou. She fanned nine batters and surrendered only one hit. She was also 1-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs. Kristie Soileau led the day for the Lady Demons. She was 3-3 with three singles. Amanda Fontenot was 2-4 with the stick.

The Lady Demons scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning and two in the top of the seventh frame. The win makes them 7-3 in district and 17-8 overall. Mamou was in the 10th slot in the Class 2A power ratings as of Friday. They are slated to travel to Port Barre Tuesday.
