Blue Jays shut down Oak Grove

MORGAN CITY – The St. Edmund Blue Jays, taking a break from District 6-1A action this weekend, declawed the Oak Grove Tigers in a four-run shutout Saturday.
St. Edmund (16-11; 5-0) took the lead in the top of the third inning with two runs, and then added two more in the sixth.
Pitchers Wesley Richard and Edward Turk, along with the Blue Jay defense, silenced the Tigers’ bats for the entire seven-inning contest.
Ryan Johnson (1-3) drove in two runs, while Tyler McGee (1-3) and Jeff Fontenot (2-3) both doubled and contributed one RBI each.
Richard earned the win, giving up no runs off of four hist and two walks, while striking out six batters in five innings.
Turk picked up the save, with no hits, runs or walks. Turk struck out two batters in six at-bats.
On Thursday, the Jays return to district play when they host Acadiana Prep at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, they’ll travel to Class 3A Jennings for a 1 p.m. game.
