A note from Mary Wyble, principal of Stephensville Elementary School, announced that the school’s Pre-K program recently went through the required state Eckers Evaluation. The Pre-K program under teacher Allison Guargliardo, aided by paraprofessional Tracey Gros, received high marks on the state evaluation. The evaluation is part of the state and federal requirements for all Title I Pre-K programs throughout the state. Ms. Wyble also said her school had 100 percent attendance in every grade throughout the LEAP and iLEAP testing time. Quite an accomplishment! Congratulations, SES Pre-K!
I shared with you last column that the latest Belle River bridge repair will begin June 2. I had called the man in charge of the company doing the work but he was unable to get back to me until recently. According to him, the delay to June 2 was the result of some job problems but mostly because of complaints from Assumption people about the problems getting kids to Central Catholic and Holy Cross schools. He mentioned some names and most were of politicians and officials but I suppose private individuals were also in the mix.
Right now would be the best time to have the bridge out of commission. There is no crawfishing in the spillway to speak of, and while bridge traffic is never light, it is probably less now than at most other times.
The highway from the Belle River bridge to the middle of Pierre Part is now fully paved but now the shoulders are being made so traffic stops continue. I’m not sure why, but a short gap of road has been left unfinished just as you leave the bridge on the Assumption side. The old surface was scraped off, but the new pavement doesn’t begin for a few yards.
Belle River is high but not yet over my seawall at least. I may lose some petunias I just planted but otherwise no problem for me. People in low areas may be seeing some minor flooding if the river continues to rise. And I think the NOAA lower Mississippi River summary indicated a pretty good rise coming which will mean Belle River won’t be able to drain very fast. Let’s cross our fingers that we don’t get any big rains!
Did you read the article by James Gill in the April 2 issue of The Teche News? “A fiscal conservative in the bedroom.” It was hilarious. I love that tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. “…when two sanctimonious humbugs…” Oh my, I almost choked on laughter!
