Panthers blow out Raiders in non-district tilt

The Panthers of Pine Prairie participated in non-district action Tuesday against the Northwest Raiders. They scored a 10-0 victory in six innings.

Pitchers Bryant Firmin and Jonathan Fontenot combined for a no-hitter. Firmin went four innings, fanning five batters and not allowing a walk. Fontenot went two innings. He fanned five batters and did not give up a free pass either.

Pine Prairie scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Firmin led off with a single to center field. One out later, Fontenot hit a two-run home run.

Three more runs crossed the plate in the second inning. Trevor LeBlanc walked and scored on a single from Brandon Guillory. Marcus Veillon (2-3) drove in Guillory, making it a 4-0 ball game. Veillon later scored when a walk was issued to Firmin with the bases loaded.

Guillory walked and scored in the third inning and then Trevor LeBlanc provided some more fireworks in the fourth frame. He hit a two-run home run that brought Ashton Dupre (1-2, DB) home.

The Panthers plated three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game at 10-0.

The Panthers get back to District 6-2A action today when they travel to Opelousas Catholic (11-15). They are also scheduled to host Oberlin (8-6) in a double-header this weekend.
