Sacred Heart gets second place

It took nine innings for a runner-up in District 6-2A to be determined. The Mamou Lady Demons hosted the Lady Trojans of Sacred Heart on Wednesday afternoon.

The two pitchers battled hard for all nine frames. Sacred Heart’s Logan Hebert allowed just five hits and fanned the same amount of batters. Her counterpart, Sadie Fontenot, went all nine installments, fanning 10 batters and allowing just three hits.

Mamou threatened to score in the first inning when they had runners at second and third base. However, the defense of SHHS came through and put out the fire.

The Lady Trojans went down in order for the five innings, before getting a runner on base in the top of the sixth inning.

The visiting team got the one and only run of the game in the top of the ninth frame. Leadoff hitter, Samantha Davenport, tripled with one out. She crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Courtney Ramirez.

Mamou went down in order in the bottom of the inning and fell 1-0.

Katie Landreneau was 2-3 for Mamou at the plate.
