Fruge, Lowry united in holy matrimony

Leah Katherine Fruge, of Crowley and Robert Wallace Lowry, of Houston were married April 12, during a small ceremony at 10 o’clock in the morning at the home of the grandparents of the bride in Crowley. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Dale Hensarling of the First United Methodist Church.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Andrew Fruge of Crowley. Her maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Leroy Hoffpauer. Paternal grandparents of the bride are Mrs. Yvonne Sigur Fruge and the late Mr. Daniel Joseph Fruge all of Crowley.

Leah is a graduate of Notre Dame High School, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe, with a Doctorate of Pharmacy. She is currently employed as a pharmacist for Walgreens.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shelton Lowry of Alexandria. His maternal grandparents are the late Mr. and Mrs. John Clark Byram, Jr. of Tallulah. Paternal grandparents of the groom are the late Reverend and Mrs. Ivan Lowry of Folsom.

Robert is a graduate of Bolton High School in Alexandria and Louisiana Tech University in Ruston with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He is a Technical Advisor for Halliburton in Houston.

Escorted by her father, the bride wore a full-length ivory gown of silk dupioni. The dress featured a v-neck line and softly pleated full floor length skirt. The bodice was overlaid with hand-beaded and sequined Alencon lace. The bracelet length sleeves were of the same sheer lace. A matching silk cummerbund tied at the waist completed the dress. The bride wore a two-tiered fingertip veil also adorned with Alencon lace and pearls dotted throughout the veil. She carried a bouquet of pink garden roses and blue agapanthus.

Something old and borrowed was an embroidered linen handkerchief that belonged to her great-great-great-aunt. Her dress was something new. A silk button was sewn to the inside of her gown for something blue and a sixpence given to her by the groom’s mother was placed in her shoe for good luck.

Maid of Honor was Charlotte Anne Fruge, sister of the bride, of Baton Rouge. Charlotte‘s dress featured a sleeveless mock wrap bodice with empire waist and soft bubble hem in ice blue silk dupioni. The waist was accented with an ivory, blue and gold floral brocade ribbon. She carried complimentary flowers.

Best man was Jeffrey Clark Lowry, brother of the groom, of Houston. Readers included Scott Thomas Lowry, brother of the groom, of Alexandria and Jeanne Fruge Rodriguez, cousin of the bride, of Epsom, United Kingdom.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the garden of the grandparents of the bride. The garden had been planted with over 900 multicolored petunias for the occasion.

Outdoor food tables were accented with tall floral arrangements. Dining tables set throughout the yard featured silver champagne buckets, filled with ice and champagne, and tied with balloons.

Guests dined on a menu featuring shrimp and beef grillades, assorted sides, breads, aspic, and fruit salad. The bride’s and groom’s cakes and the coffee bar were set in the carriage house.

The bride’s cake was three tiered and decorated with fresh wedding flowers.

The groom’s cake was chocolate, decorated with sugared fruit and chocolate dipped strawberries.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom’s parents at Cafe Vermilionville, Friday, April 11.

Following a wedding trip to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, the couple will make their home in Houston.
