Sacred Heart girls win Bearcat Relays

The Sacred Heart track teams performed at the Basile Bearcat Relays this week in another effort to sharpen their skills for the District 6-2A meet, which will be held in Port Barre. The girls accumulated 117 points and took the event title. The SHHS boys competed strong as well.

The young ladies did very well in both the field and track events. The girls in blue and gold took first and second in the javelin. Lyndi Veillon was the top lady in the event and teammate Taylor McCauley was right behind her. Allison Fusilier was tops in the high jump and Madeline Broussard placed third in the triple jump.

Lauren Parrott won the 400-meter run and Samantha Davenport was tops in the 300-meter hurdles to top things off at the track. Hannah Enicke was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles and she placed third in the 300-meter hurdles. Alivia Fontenot took the third slot in the 800-meter run.

The 4-by-200-meter relay team of Parrott, Davenport, Enicke and Lyndsey Schexnayder took first place, gathering big points for Sacred Heart. Also taking first place was the 4-by-400-meter relay team of Fusilier, Davenport, Schexnayder and Parrott. The 4-by-100-meter relay team of Broussard, Vidrine, Schexnayder and Sarah Fontenot was the runner-up in that event.

The SHHS boys got a pair of first place finishes. Cade McDaniel took the top spots in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. McDaniel was tabbed the Outstanding Male Athlete. He collected a total of 23.5 points for his team. The boys 4-by-400-meter relay team of McDaniel, Michael Vidrine, Kyle Fontenot and Ian David was the runner-up in that event. The 4-by-200-meter team of McDaniel, David, Vidrine and Stuart Schexnayder placed third in their race. Jonathan Firmin placed third in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run. Vidrine grabbed a third place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
