Relay for Life held Friday

RAYNE – Hundreds of people gathered this past Friday night at the Rayne fairgrounds for a very meaningful purpose, the annual Relay For Life event. The event raises money for the American Cancer Society, and honors those who have lost their lives to cancer, as well as those who are survivors.
The kickoff began at 6 p.m. with an introduction of the honorary survivors for the night. The first lap walked was for the triumphant survivors, marching to the song by Destiny’s Child, “Survivor.” After this joyous procession, the track was open to all participants for the rest of the night.
Among entertainment provided were food booths, and musical entertainment by such artists as Kira Viator.
“We had a good time. It was good to see people I hadn’t seen in a while.” said Jonathan Primeaux, local resident.
