Trahan tosses no-hitter at Northwest

CROWLEY – It was just about their biggest game of the season for the Crowley Ladies and they responded just like CHS coach Brian Gary hoped they would.

The Ladies, getting a no-hit pitching effort from Tiffany Trahan, shut out Northwest, 10-0, Thursday in their district and regular-season finale at the CHS diamond.

With the victory, the Ladies improved their chances of getting into the Class AAA playoffs. They finished the regular season at 12-12 on the year and 4-4 in league play.

“It was a big day for us because it was Senior Day. But the girls came out like they were on a mission,” said Gary. “They knew we needed to get this fourth district win to have a chance at getting in the playoffs and they came out and got it done.”

They certainly did - in nearly every aspect of the game.

On the mound, Trahan shut the Raiders down completely, giving up no hits while striking out seven. She was just one walk away from a perfect game.

In her four-year career, Trahan has thrown a no-hitter each season. She finished her senior regular-season campaign with 187 strikeouts.

Trahan received ample support from the CHS batters, who banged out eight hits and took advantage of four Northwest errors. The Ladies scored three runs in the first, second and fourth innings and one in the sixth.

“We came out and hammered the ball; we got a great pitching performance and we played error free on defense,” said Gary. “We knew what we had to do and we got the job accomplished.”

Loralyn Huval and Amber Broussard paced the Ladies at the plate with two hits each. Huval had a single and a double and drove in two runs. Broussard also had a double and one run driven in.

Mandy Burke had one hit, a double, and two RBI; Celes Weekley and Trahan each had a run-scoring single and Amy Abshire had a single.

“You know, we had our ups and downs this year, but the girls stuck together and we’ve really come a long way.
