EPSB hears from Superintendent Hamlin

The Evangeline Parish School Board meeting Wednesday, April 23, was less than 15 minutes long as Superintendent Toni Hamlin addressed the board on occurrences in the parish.

Hamlin said three students from Basile had placed at the state literary rally. Abby LeBleu placed first at the state level in English II, and Catherine Fontenot placed first in English III. Both are students of Diane Duhon. David Scott Fontenot placed fourth in physical science. He is a student of Veronica Vige.

Six more teachers, all at Vidrine Elementary, have applied for their national certification. As a result $10,000 will be received by the school during the 08-09 school term. “We’re always delighted when our teachers go back and seek these certifications,” Hamlin said.

In other business, the board learned the May election cost the board $31,000 for the renewal of parishwide taxes. The October bill is for $1,461. Hamlin wanted to clarify the previous information she had given the board, because when she signed the bill for $31,000 she thought it was for the October election. The state is approximately four to six months behind in its billing process.
