‘Take Back the Night’ march is Wednesday, April 30
The annual “Take Back the Night” march will be observed here Wednesday, April 30, at the Evangeline Parish Courthouse, according to Laura Balthazar, executive director for the St. Landry-Evangeline Sexual Assault Center.
“April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month,” Balthazar said. “In order to combat the fear women face going out alone at night and to increase awareness of the violence directed against women, the St. Landry-Evangeline Sexual Assault Center is hosting the Sixth Annual ‘Take Back the Night’ march and rally.”
The march will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the courthouse and go to the right on Court Street, left onto Cypress Street, left onto Harvey Lebas Street and left on Magnolia Street before returning to the courthouse where a candlelight vigil will be held in remembrance of sexual assault and domestic violence victims.
This event is for the whole family. Parents are welcome to bring their wagons for their children. To learn more about this unique issue, call the assault center at 585-4673.
