Team Sam wins ELTL Spring 2008 championship

Team Sam maintained its impressive lead with a 13-5 win over Team Tupper, claiming the Spring 2008 championship title as the Eunice Ladies Tennis League season wrapped up last week.
On Court One, Team Sam’s Felicia Allen and Nisha Sam won a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Ann Roberts and Brenda Fontenot of Team Tupper.
Janet Prudhomme and Ann Latiolais also scored a win for Team Sam with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over team captain Connie Tupper and Shirley Miller on Court Two.
On Court Three, Team Tupper’s Martha Guempel and Joann DeRouen scored a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 split set win over Margaret Young and Joan McManus of Team Sam.
Liz Ortego and Blanche Fontenot of Team Sam won a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 split set against Team Tupper’s Katie Young and Jean Higginbotham on Court Four.
In the other match of the last week, Team Richard jumped from fourth to second place with a 16-1 victory, sweeping Team Manuel on all four courts.
Court One was a forfeit by Team Manuel, giving Team Richard an easy win.
On Court Two, Janice Brignac and Sheila Rheams of Team Richard won a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 split set against Kay Dietz and Lita LeJeune of Team Manuel.
Also scoring a win for Team Richard, Myra Miller and Ellen Myers defeated team captain Cheryl Manuel and Paula Frugé 6-2, 6-1 on Court Three.
On Court Four, Amber Rougeau and Yvonne Vasseur of Team Richard scored a 6-1, 7-6 win over Team Manuel’s Ching Wasmuth and Melissa Reynolds.
