EVFC holds meeting and sewing workshop

The Evangeline Volunteers for Family and Community Education held its monthly meeting and a sewing workshop March 27, at the residence of Joyce Coreil. Twelve members were present.

Since the February meeting, several activities have been held. Nelda Fontenot, Joyce Coreil and Lynn Landreneau attended the Sew with Cotton Style Show. The club staged an Easter Egg Dye Party for the residents of Heritage Manor. Those attending the party, along with Fontenot, Coreil and Landreneau, were Geneva Reed, Mary Soileau, Earleen Boyce, Elaine MacArthur, Tina Guillory and Sarah Webb. A fun day included the viewing of the Todd Cutrer Collection of Vivian Alexander decorated eggs at the Opelousas Museum and Interpretive Center. JoAnne Eastin, Theresa Reed and the others were in attendance.

The club made a donation to the St. Joseph’s Altar sponsored by Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church.

Plans were made for several upcoming events:

•4-H Acheivement Day was held in Basile, April 8.

•The club will give a donation to the Pro-Life Baby Bottle Campaign conducted by Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

•Plans were discussed for the club’s Exhibit Day set for May 22, at the extension office and to make an educational exhibit and give a demonstration on recycling at Area Four Day in Crowley, June 5.

The raffle cake made by Elaine MacArthur was won by Gwen Wolff. Door prize winners were Elaine LaTour and Jackie Miller.

Judy Waters joined the members for lunch and the sewing workshop in the afternoon.

The meeting’s program, Stain Masters, was presented by Lynn Landreneau. Some things she noted to remember were:

•Read the care label on the garment before attempting to treat a stain.

•Treat a stain within an hour to prevent a permanent mark.

•Test stain remover before using.

•Avoid rubbing. It may set the stain or fray fabric.

•Keep a white towel for use on stains and seek help from a dry cleaner for stains on silk, suede and leather.

•Stain removers found in the home include baking soda, club soda, vinegar, distilled water, borax, rubbing alcohol, talcum powder and liquid dish and laundry detergents.
