CROWLEY – Barry Premeaux, general manager and host of the morning show for KSIG radio station, had an idea for providing area residents with a monthly variety show.

“When I was a young boy I used to watch The Ed Sullivan Show,” he said. “The way he presented his acts and his style are something that we haven’t seen since.”

On Saturday, May 17, Crowley Night at the Rice Theatre will make it’s initial appearance. The monthly variety show will feature Premeaux as its host and will have many different acts from area and national performers.

“Charlotte Jeffers called me and said that she was interested in having an evening of entertainment and was looking for my input,” he said. “I suggested doing a show in the Ed Sullivan-style and she agreed. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Premeaux’s enthusiasm was evident as he went through some of the acts that will be featured during the May 17 show.

“We have Murray Conque scheduled,” he said. “He is a comedian who has been on several television shows. We also have Caleb Simon, a local magician and illusionist, scheduled for that night.”

The Crowley Night at the Rice Theatre will be scheduling comedians, dance acts, musicians, and other acts for their upcoming shows. They will also have a house band in the tradition of late night television shows. Each performer will be interviewed on stage immediately following their act similar to the way Sullivan did it.

Premeaux, 44, has been in radio for nineteen years. He is also a singer, songwriter, and a musician.

“I really think that this is going to turn out to be something really good,” he said. “We have some great ideas for some of the upcoming shows.”
