Bengals steal 7-5 win over Bossier Parish CC

BOSSIER – The LSU at Eunice Bengals, ranked second in the nation for Division II, surged in the final innings to steal a 7-5 win over Bossier Parish Community College in their last road game of the regular season.
LSUE (41-10) took an early lead in the nine-inning game, scoring the first run in the top of the first inning on Matt Creel’s RBI groundout.
The Division I Cavaliers took the lead however with a four-run surge in the bottom of the second inning, including a 2 RBI double from second baseman Stephen Laurent.
BPCC added another run on a fielder’s obstruction in the bottom of the third, extending its lead to 5-1.
Brady Bourque drove in one run in the top of the fourth, followed by Delta Cleary’s RBI double and Kellen Bozeman’s RBI single in the top of the fifth, cutting BPCC’s lead to 5-4.
LSUE tied the score in the top of the eighth, when Nate Peterson nailed a solo home run over the left-field fence on a 0-1 count.
Later in the inning, Cleary doubled again to drive in the lead run.
The Bengals added an insurance run in the top of the ninth when Bozeman was hit by a pitch, advanced on a sacrifice fly and a groundout, and then scored on a passed ball by Cav catcher Michael Petitto.
Starter Stefan Comeaux (5-0) pitched the win for the Bengals, giving up five runs, three of them earned, off of six hits and three walks, while striking out six batters in the first seven innings of the game.
Relievers Corey Lopez and Josh Bailey silenced the Cavs’ bats in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, earning Bailey the save.
Corey Hoff took the loss for BPCC, giving up two earned runs off of three hits in the eighth inning.
The Bengals wrap up their regular season with a doubleheader at home against Galveston Junior College at 2 p.m.
