Library welcomes Melissa Stevenson

Melissa Stevenson, a Louisiana musician and storyteller, will be at the Evangeline Parish Library system on the following dates and times for the public to enjoy her unique performances.

Performance dates are Tuesday, June 3rd, at the Turkey Creek Branch Library at 10 a.m. and Ville Platte’s main branch at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 4th. She will be at the Pine Prairie branch at 10 a.m and at the Mamou Teen Center at 2 p.m. On, Thursday, June 5th, she will be at the Basile Branch Library at 10 a.m., and at the Chataignier Village Hall at 3 p.m.

Stevenson is a certified music teacher from Lafayette Parish. She received her bachelors and her music education certification in 2003. She has taught music in both public and private schools. She is currently employed as a music teacher for Ascension Day School Early Learning Center where she is responsible for creating their Preschool and Kindergarten music curriculum. She is also responsible for organizing various music programs for public performance, choosing and writing music as well as performing at school functions. As a children’s songwriter and musician, she wrote, recorded and performed vocals and acoustic guitar on her own children’s album entitled “Dill Pickles Bugz and Other Feel Good Tunes” which was released in 2005. She is a member of a Lafayette all-female bluegrass band known as “The Figs” and performed with them at the 2007 Festival International in Lafayette.

Her musical program, “Dill Pickles, Bugz, and Other Feel Good Tunes,” features several different musical styles including Cajun, Bluegrass, Swing, Rock, and Calypso. She plays the guitar and is often accompanied by her husband, Cal, on guitar.
