CLECO holds summer Fan Drive

CROWLEY – Could you imagine enduring the hot Louisiana summer in your home without an air conditioner, or even a fan? In an ongoing attempt to keep senior citizens of Acadia parish cool during the summer, Cleco corporation and the Council on Aging have teamed up to provide fans for the elderly in need.

As most people aren’t aware, the elderly are more vulnerable to illnesses such as heat stroke, as they do not adjust as well as young people to sudden changes in temperature.

This program is one of many under Cleco’s Cut-A-Watt program, which was introduced earlier this year.

Kim Broussard, Cleco coordinator for the fan drive, says that they have been providing fans each summer for the past three years. “This year we will be able to provide over 60 fans to the elderly. We have raised nearly $500 so far, both from individuals and businesses,” Broussard says. She encourages elderly people to sign up for the program if they are in need of the fan. “They need to sign up for the program at the Council on Again building, and from there they will be put on a list.”

Broussard also wants to encourage donors to come in, as all donations will be graciously accepted. Those interested in donating can do so at the Cleco office on North Parkerson. “Some time early next week, Cleco will be delivering the fans to the Council on Aging, where applicants will be contacted as to when to pick up their fans,” Broussard added.
