Viola Young Gibson

EUNICE – Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Starlight Baptist Church in Rayne for Viola Young Gibson, 94, who died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Lafayette.

Rev. Lloyd Joiner, Jr. of Progressive Baptist Church in Lafayette will be officiating the services.

Interment will take place in Rayne Protestant Cemetery.

Gibson was a member of Starlight Baptist Church for over 70 years, Willing Workers Mission, Choir, Pastors Aid, Sunday School, Usher Board, Building Committee, Cafeteria Committee and many other organizations.

She is survived by one brother, Alex Young of Rayne; five sons, Joseph Gerald Gibson, Sr., Anthony Gibson and Carl Gibson, all of Rayne, Larry Gibson of Houston and Don Gibson of Martinez, Ca.; seven daughters, Eva (Suzie)Charles of Rayne, Evelyn Joyce Roy of Beaumont, Texas, Aquator Sullivan of Richmond, Ca., Marie Augustine , Myrtle Carter, Charlene Martin and Kathy Gibson, all of Martinez, Ca.; 46 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Gibson; her parents, Edward and Ophelia Young; two sons, Wilbert and Wilford Gibson; two sisters, Celestine Langlanes and Myrtis Strange; and six brothers, Crayton, Wilbert, August, Freddie, Curtis and Mike Young.

Visiting hours will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Starlight Baptist Church in Rayne.

Serving as pallbearers will be LaDeria Charles, Chad Gibson, Gregory Haynes, Joshua Gibson, Braylon Guillory and Terrance Gibson.

Frank Brothers Funeral Home of Eunice is in charge of the arrangements.
