VP man charged after pointing weapon at officer

The Ville Platte Police Department took a Ville Platte man into custody Thursday, June 5, after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at an officer.

Lt. Craig Nichols said officers were summoned to the intersection of Soileau and Cypress streets at 11:17 a.m. after receiving calls of a man walking around carrying a shotgun. He said when officers arrived on the scene, the man pointed the shotgun at the officer’s unit and then fled the scene.

Police officers located Tony Williams, 28, 722 Calcasieu Street, Ville Platte, in the 600 block of Calcasieu Street. Williams fled officers and hid his gun under a home in this block. Officers took Williams into custody and later discovered his shotgun.

As a result of this incident, Williams was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, criminal damage to property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond was set at $25,000 by 13th Judicial District Judge John Larry Vidrine.
