CROWLEY - Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 11 am at Morning Star Baptist Church for Mrs. Geneva Minex-Taylor, 95, who passed away Friday, June 6, 2008 at American Legion Hospital. Rev. Donald R. Burnette will officiate the services. Interment will be at West Crowley Cemetery.

Mrs. Geneva Minex-Taylor was the first born, on August 31, 1912 in Maxie., to Mr. Sidney and Mrs. Clara Minex. She departed this life on June 06, 2008 in Crowley.

Geneva received her elementary and high school education at Crowley Industrial High School under the leadership of Rev. Henry Clay Ross approximately 1929. She completed Normal School, taught elementary school, later moved to Lake Charles to further her education. Geneva met and married Harold Taylor in Lake Charles and resided there for several years. They later moved to Oakland, California where they resided until the death of Harold and many years after. There were no children born to this union. Geneva’s religious affiliation was with the “Church of the Good Shepherd in Oakland, Calif. She served diligently in her church in various capacities: Sunday School; vacation bible school teacher; member of Missionary Society; Deaconess Board; attended Institute for Christian Studies and was ordained as deacon August 27, 1995, serving in this capacity until returning to Crowley.

Several years after the death of her husband, Geneva’s health began to fail. In May, 2002, Geneva returned to Crowley to be near family and took residence at Christian Villa Nursing Home (now known as Summerwood), where she developed new relationships! Friends until her demise.

She was preceded in death by: father and mother, Sidney and Clara Minex; four sisters, Lorena Minex, Bernadine Matthews, Thelma Hardy and Junius Minex . Memories of her years of life will be treasured by several nieces, nephews, other family members and mends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Morning Star Baptist Church from 8 am until time of services.
