Whooz Nexx wins recent tourney

The Whooz Nexx Girls 16U Slowpitch softball team captured the Scott World Qualifier Tournament recently.

The Abbeville based team with girls from throughout Vermilion Parish went 3-0 en route to winning the title. The team opened play on Saturday and defeated Slysi 14-4. Terrisita Vallery collected four hits, Nikki Trahan went 3-for-3 and Shea Delcambre 2-for-2.

On Sunday the local team faced a challenge in the form of the Cajun Slammers.

The game was close, but Whooz Nexx pulled off an 8-7 victory. Defensively the team was lead by Whitney Woods who turned two crucial double plays and Vallery who made a spectacular catch in the outfield that ended the game. Vallery went 4-for-4 and Woods 3-for-4.

Whooz Nexx faced the Lake Charles Silver Bullets in the tournament’s title game.

The team exploded for 25 hits on its way to a 19-9 victory over the Silver Bullets. Vallery went 4-for-4 and Egypt Brown 3-for-3. Woods, Paige Choate, Ami Godfrey and Tiera Lewis each went 2-for-3.

The team traveled this Fathers Day weekend to Lake Charles.
